We Honor Veterans, a joint program of NHPCO and the Department of Veterans Affairs, has spurred hospices across the country to create outreach programs and educational activities, develop partnerships and increase access to services for vets. These hospices are doing it right!

Hospice of Santa Cruz County
Hospice of Santa Cruz County, in Scotts Valley, CA, hosted a We Honor Veterans Symposium for vets, their families, and health care providers, with free admission for vets and their families. The symposium focused on end-of-life care, veterans benefits, protecting vets from fraud and community resources.

Richmond County Hospice
This month, Richmond County Hospice, in Rockingham, NC, honored their local veterans with a "Salute to Veterans" that included a US Army parachute team, the 82 Airborne Division All American Band playing the national anthem, and a luncheon.

Hospice of Michigan
Hospice of Michigan, which cares for patients throughout the state, trains its employees using the We Honor Veterans curriculum. During November, it hosts a series of pinning ceremonies with local legislators, long-term care facilities and military organizations.

Hospice of the Valley
In Decatur, AL, Hospice of the Valley offers  free training for caregivers of veterans. Veterans have a unique set of experiences that can affect their end-of-life needs.
